Outcomes of patients receiving non-invasive ventilation (NIV) in the general intensive care unit: is NIV duration an important factor?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Methods We conducted a retrospective care note analysis of all patients receiving their first NIV period at any time during their ICU admission between 1 January 2014 and 31 December 2014. Patients receiving NIV after a period of mechanical ventilation were excluded from this analysis. Patients were analysed depending on whether they received NIV for a total period of < 48 hours or > 48 hours. For each group, data was collected for % time NIV actually received during their NIV period, number requiring intubation and mechanical ventilation, ICU length of stay and number surviving to ICU discharge.

Comparing trends in the use and outcomes of non invasive ventilation (NIV) in a general intensive care unit
Methods We conducted a retrospective analysis of all patients receiving NIV for the first time at any stage of their ICU admission between 1 January 2014 and 31 December 2014. Patients were divided into 3 groups: decompensated respiratory failure (DRF) (pH< 7.35 + pCO2>6KPa preNIV), non-decompensated respiratory failure (NDRF) (pH>7.35 or PCO2< 6Kpa pre-NIV) or post extubation. For each patient...

BACKGROUND The purpose of the study was to analyze the characteristics and evolution of non-invasive mechanical ventilation (NIV) in the postoperative period of heart surgery in children. METHODS Retrospective observational study including all children requiring NIV after heart surgery in a single center pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) between 2001 and 2012. Demographic characteristics, ...

Background: Application noninvasive ventilation in the patients with exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) reduced mortality. This case-control study was designed to compare efficiency and outcome of non-invasive (NIV) versus invasive positive pressure ventilation (IPPV) in respiratory failure due to COPD Methods: The patients were assigned to NIV or IPPV intermittantl...

Acute respiratory failure (ARF) in cancer patients remains a frequent and severe complication, despite the general improved outcome over the last decade. The survival of cancer patients requiring ventilatory support in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has dramatically improved over the last years. The diagnostic approach, including an invasive strategy using fiber optic bronchoscopy or a non-invasive ...

BACKGROUND Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is being increasingly used in children with acute respiratory failure, preventing complications associated with conventional mecánical ventilation. AIMS To determinate the efficacy of NIV in children with acute respiratory failure or chronic respiratory failure. METHODS Prospective study of all patients who underwent NIV (November 2005 to April 2008...
